The master school was founded in 1997. The Dortmund Chamber of Crafts is the body responsible for the school. Both the practical and theoretical components of the course are completely run in the Dombauhütte [masons’ lodge] in Soest, Walburgerstraße 56. The theoretical instruction takes place in the training room, the practical lessons in the workshop of the masons’ lodge. Accordingly, these subject areas are examined by the Master’s Examination Board. The focus of the training is on design and formation, manual stone processing, applied engineering construction and the history of art.
The following subject areas comprise the various project work of the current examination regulations:
Lecturers are teachers from University and the industry, experienced freelancers from the respective fields and the heads of fellow cathedral workshops. The team of lecturers and the Examination Board are not in principle separate from one another. There is close cooperation with the Landesinnungsverband des Steinmetz- und Bildhauerhandwerks [State Guild of Stonemasons and Sculptors].
